Re-Ment Moomin Desk Collection! And of course all the boxes look identical - I forgot they’re meant to be sold as blind boxes… Well, this is the one I wanted, #4: Hattifattener stamp holder. Obviously I don’t own the sort of seal this was made to hold, but I think it works fine on its own - who doesn’t want a boatful of hattifatteners sailing across their desk on their way towards the horizon?

Two disappointments: the transparent plastic is the stinky (and possibly toxic) kind, and there’s a small rough spot on the waves in front of the bow that might come from a drop of glue of something. Maybe that’s why it was on sale? It could also be that it’s one of the less popular sets (the unboxing youtube video above doesn’t even have it). On the other hand, according to the blogpost on the screen in the photos (if google translate can be trusted) this and the fishing Snufkin one are the two most popular, since their “seas” fit together to make one set.

Also TIL that the japanese name for hattifatteners is nyoronyoro, which is also the onomatopoeia of snakes wriggling, and imo makes much more sense as a translation than hattifatteners (fattener?? what??). I can see why the translator wanted to take the easy way out, but I also feel like english readers are missing out a bit: their original name hattifnattar comes from two words that separately or together means something like dither, shilly-shally, or dash about (or conniption). A pretty good description of what they’re about.
